i'm a little sickie this morning. i did ok work yesterday, but i still have the feeling that i want to write it ALL at once, and not in these little parts. my ftp isn't connecting with rmit, so i can't put anything in my file. i'm feeling a little sorry for myself, because i can feel a few aches and pains coming on with the cold. i don't get sick often, so this will be only a mild sickieness.

hey!
i've been reading lynch on lynch, by chris rodley - for some general literature review stuff and yesterday i took some of the definitions from Aarseth's ergodic literature - about interactive and nonlinear - and i'll be able to use this as part of some of my definitions....
i've been quite happy, generally plodding along. i'm sticking to my initial structure, and that seems to be working so far! i've practically finished the lit review stuff, so that's great. there was only like 3 main references on lynch's web work, so i'm nuttling through basic lynch cinematic elements (dream, image, mood).
my 'eureka' today was - fragments, moments, etc make up lynch cinema, and these are also elements important to the online stuff - five minute online films etc. small pictures, moments. i'll have to write about it, because it's doesn't sound so great now that i'm blogging it!
anyways, another thing about electronic publishing - stephen king created a unique online novel but eventually he dropped it, because readership/consumerism was so low.... how does this compare to lynch? his (lynch) subscribers are in the 1000s, apparently, and would he keep the project going even if he had no subscribers? it would be a financial disaster (as king found), but would the creativity place higher significance than that.... i'd like to image so... but people have to be paid.... grr. this isn't stuff i'd like to think about, but i can't help it.....
anyways - interactivity - davidlynch.com is a world to be involved with. you can't just let it flow like a flash intro - there are links, buttons, cursors, play/start buttons, and stop/pause buttons (Quicktime) they need to be pressed, clicked etc to perform - they are waiting there for you to interact with..... this is the physical side of it....
interactivity - the fictional narratives (in episode/series independent peices) are time-based, and will continuous perform once the play button is activated... the interaction one has with these series is purely reader-response theory. you can't manipulate anything about these fixed narratives... there are small, shot on (presumably) dv, and (what i've seen so far) confined to one set, one shot (without edits - so continuous as well), with real actors. so what do these 'pictures' do there on the screen. they can be stopped - paused - left running while a user/viewer jumps from window to window. they can also be opened two or three episodes at the time (i haven't tried it - but i believe so...)
ok, a little waffle - but there you go, just had to write somewhere else beside note books/word.... ummmmm....
i was going to write something else, but have forgotten (real time - two girls walked along the street giggling) ok! see ya!
